Generally fish farming

Keeping chickens in the back yard gas were common practice for a very long tine. Although to some extent they are kept for their neat, this is usually only secondary to their ability to provide eggs, which are still fairly cheap as sources of protein. Are chickens, then really worth keeping? They take up quite a lit of space in the garden. Chicken sheds and runs are net particularly attractive to look at. The birds have to be fed regularly, at least twice a day, including holiday tines. Their food must either be prepared by you, or purchased- which is not cheap. Their housing must be kept dry, warm and clean. Your neighbors may not   like the noise or the smell. Rabbits are simpler to feed, silent, and more cost-effective as sources of meat.  But apart from that all the disadvantages of keeping chickens apply to them, too.

Fish is an anomaly in the modern world by being the only teaming wild thing user by civilize man as major food- stuff. All other foods, animal and vegetable alike, have been domesticated. Fish animal fends for itself without and vegetable alike, have been domesticated. Fish alone fends for itself without benefit of farm pasture, fertilize or (save fir a few specialized trout hatcheries) purposeful breeding. It is, therefore, worth considering its food supply and biological origin, and it is also  of interest  to dwell for a moment on the theoretical possibilities which might arise if this anachronistic savage were, like all others, put to work for civilize mankind .many unhappy precedents suggest that, does not take place, the alternative  may be extinction .

 Generally speaking, the position has not changed very much since this was written.  Both sea fish and fresh water fish still run wild. Man uses very sophisticated methods to catch them, even to the extent of fishing out the abundant sources, while he does nothing to nourish and foster fish, except to apply restrictions to certain areas is an attempt to reduce the decline of the fish population temporarily. Even then, these precautions are more often taken in the national interest than in that of mankind generally. Admittedly there has been a steady increase in the number of trout fish farms, but the main aim of many of them is to re-stock lakes and reservoirs, primarily for sporting purposes. Angling is now a leading, . in addition, as a counter to diminishing natural supplies caused by over-fishing, serious attempts are beginning to be made to farm marine fish domestically, sometimes using the warm- water effluent from nuclear power plants. Fish farming is, however, still in its infancy. Perhaps now because of political and economic fish farming to produce food will be speeded up. In the meantime, you can make your own worthwhile contribution to fish farming, and the same tine save money, in your own back garden.
